A project led by Sky.One to support more than 30 stores and 300 users, promoting a more stable environment and access, as well as better performance, even facilitating 4G connectivity
São Paulo, October 2021 – The Asun Supermarket Network , one of the leading retailers in Rio Grande do Sul, migrated its ERP system to the cloud with the help of Sky.One , a startup specializing in the development of technological platforms for modernizing management software. “The project, which involves supporting more than 30 stores in the Network and 300 users, was made possible through the Auto.Sky , which, in this specific project, uses a database with Oracle Exadata Database Machine. The results are already noticeable and include a more stable environment and access, as well as better performance, even facilitating 4G connectivity.”
According to Antônio Martins, Technology Area Manager at the Asun Supermarket chain, prior to the migration, the retail chain operated on an on-premise model, where the entire database and server area, for example, was allocated to the IT team, which handled the entire process of monitoring the server and the data center environment.
Furthermore, Rede needed to upgrade its Oracle license, and therefore understood that it was the ideal time to migrate to the cloud. “We had a workload that involved constant server uptime and all the contractual warranty aspects. We understood that we needed to migrate to the cloud. Therefore, we relied on Sky.One's expertise to help us meet all our new needs,” he states.
Quick and hassle-free implementation
DBMaster, one of the leading providers of database management solutions in Brazil and a partner of Sky.One, contributed to the development of the project by assisting in the management and structuring of the Network's database. Furthermore, it ensured compliance with the General Data Protection Law (LGPD), according to DBMaster's Chief Technology Officer, Igor Silva. "This journey gave Asun access to Oracle database features and is greatly assisting in processes related to governance, process optimization, and tuning. In this last area, we achieved excellent results using the features and also enabled adjustments to the Database layer related to the LGPD," he explains.
Sky.One's Retail Cloud Specialist, Paulo Rebello, emphasizes that the entire project was designed with the long-term benefits of cloud migration . “We created a migration project for all structures, starting primarily with the ERP. Thus, we migrated the ERP using Auto.Sky, which, in the design of this project, utilizes Oracle Database services through Oracle Enterprise with Exadata. Now, there is a series of roadmaps for implementing Oracle Enterprise solutions,” he explains.
The implementation took approximately 45 days. According to Rebello, before starting the process, the Sky.One team conducted a connectivity test, which was crucial for validating the environment. Today, all areas of the Asun Network use the Auto.Sky solution, including purchasing, store operations, finance, and the distribution center, for updating and using these environments. "Our goal was to enable a migration with rapid access, easy adoption, faster environment speed, and minimal impact on users, thus providing cost reduction in the short, medium, and long term," he explains.
Agility, performance, and security in the cloud
For Martins, migrating to the cloud relieved a burden on the IT area. “Business-oriented IT is different from problem-solving IT. It's a cultural issue, but when we moved this range of servers and databases to Sky.One, we automatically freed up the time dedicated to technical hours for on-premise management, giving the team more breathing room to plan the next steps to be tackled. Furthermore, the project significantly optimized my own contract demands, since I no longer need to rely on disk and hardware suppliers,” he emphasizes.
Martins also comments that, regarding security and LGPD (Brazilian General Data Protection Law), having a protected environment hosted in a data center with data encryption and a specialized team like Sky.One's, responsible for all monitoring and backups, ensures greater security and peace of mind. The downtime that occurred before was also a critical point resolved after the migration. “The problems were solved. Currently, we are more focused on projects, since we now have a robust ERP and infrastructure. The idea now is to seek partners and invest in innovation to differentiate ourselves from the standard,” he concludes.
