Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can greatly benefit from using cloud computing . After all, with data stored in the cloud, there are savings in time and money, increased productivity, improved collaboration, and promotion of innovation.

What is cloud computing?

Cloud computing is the practice of using a network of remote servers, hosted on the internet, to store, manage, and process data, thus avoiding the use of a local server or a personal computer.

Cloud computing provides users with access to data wherever they are, as long as there is an internet connection. And, in today's constantly changing market environment, it's important for small and medium-sized business owners to have all the information available wherever they are.

In other words, through a computer, tablet, or smartphone, in any environment, whether in the office or outside of it, cloud computing provides easy access to information.

What are the applications of cloud computing?

To make the application of cloud computing clearer for small and medium-sized businesses, we have separated the four different types of cloud services:

  • Cloud storage : a service that stores and backs up files for access, sharing, and synchronization across multiple devices;
  • Cloud backup : a service similar to cloud storage, but used only as a backup source in case of failure, cyberattack, or other data loss;
  • Software as a Service (SaaS): a service that uses the web to provide services, such as Netflix , and can also be called a service platform.
  • Cloud hosting : a service that facilitates all types of information sharing, such as email, application hosting, and data storage.

Therefore, there are several ways for small and medium-sized enterprises to use cloud computing, primarily as a means of accessing information from anywhere.

How important is this structure for small and medium-sized enterprises?

A recent study by The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) found that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that adopt cloud-based IT infrastructure gain a competitive edge over their market competitors.

In Brazil, these companies' annual revenue increases by 16%, and new job creation occurs 11% faster compared to those with lower adoption of cloud computing.

This is due to the automation process for small and medium-sized enterprises . Instead of managing operations individually, company management has the ability to control information centrally, through applications, generating greater speed and efficiency.

With easier information management, it becomes possible to increase innovation and business growth, with cloud computing becoming a driving force for market advancement. This is because, according to studies, leading small and medium-sized technology companies improve their productivity by connecting to new customers and markets, which may even be from different regions or countries.
