Comporte Group recovers 17 servers after ransomware attack in 2 days

Comporte Participações SA Group is a solid player in the Brazilian land passenger and freight transport market. They began operations in 2002 and, with a broad presence in various regions of the country, the group deals with a unique complexity in terms of systems integration and data security.
We spoke with Dante Pacheco, IT Infrastructure Manager at Grupo Comporte, to understand the company's technological landscape, which currently partners with Skyone in three areas – we work with our Skyone Cloud Guru specialists to support their cloud environment, in addition to offering system integration and cybersecurity solutions.

The success story between Sky.One and Grupo Comporte began with the group's search for a systems integration solution, initially for integrating a small part of its operation. Sky.One's systems integration solution was so successful that they are now expanding its use.
This expansion will also encompass the complex operation of electronic ticketing, which is present in various regions of Brazil. The complexity of the operation stems from the use of different system platforms in each unit; furthermore, each of them meets divergent configuration requirements demanded by concessionaires and regulatory bodies. Ultimately, all this information needs to be within the SAP system, the ERP used by the Comporte Group.
In this sense, systems integration plays a fundamental role, working with all this data, from different origins and formats, and compiling this information in the SAP system, facilitating the visibility of information and speeding up the decision-making process in the company.
In 2022, the Comporte Group also began using Cloud Guru to support its cloud environment with Skyone. It was this support team that identified a ransomware attack attempt in the early hours of the morning that year. Cloud Guru's specialists quickly contacted Skyone's cybersecurity team, who provided all the necessary support to help the company resume operations as quickly as possible.
“In the last attack, we managed to discover the origin and a blocking operation was carried out. Seventeen servers were impacted, none of them related to the sales platform, but the printing service, user authentication, DNS, and some others needed to be restored. With Skyone, the services were restored quickly. In two days, all 17 servers were back online. We had this experience firsthand, and thanks to the efficiency of Skyone's Cybersecurity team and the positive results, we decided to take the next step: contracting Security Manager and SOC services with Skyone.” – Dante Pacheco – IT Infrastructure Manager
The attack, however, did not hit the company's most critical area. According to Pacheco, within the company, systems have different levels of criticality when it comes to cyberattacks. The ticket sales platform, for example, has a high level of criticality, and an attack on it, even a DDoS attack to bring down operations, would mean a loss in company revenue. Even so, the latest attack affected operations due to the intrusion into the SAP system.
The Comporte Group is no stranger to cyber threats. In a previous incident, they faced a smaller-scale attack impacting two critical servers on their sales platform.
However, thanks to the robust backup infrastructure and cloud server images, service restoration was swift, taking only 2 hours. In the case of the latest attack, the source was discovered and the team worked tirelessly to block it.
Experiences like these show how complex the cybersecurity landscape is and how quickly threats escalate. Dante Pacheco emphasizes the importance of constant vigilance when it comes to cybersecurity: “Criminals are always looking for vulnerabilities. We need a team that is also constantly identifying these vulnerabilities. It's an ongoing job, as threats evolve daily.”
In this landscape of increasing threats, close collaboration between the Comporte Group team and the Skyone team, including the PDCA cycle (Plan, Do, Check, Act), plays a fundamental role in the maturation of cybersecurity, ensuring that risks are effectively identified, monitored, and mitigated.
